Vision

The purpose of the History Department is prepare students for a better understanding of the Lord's sovereignty and the working out of his redemptive plan for man and all of creation through the events that have taken place throughout recorded history.  Students will be better prepared to function in and redeem culture.

Standards

Social Studies students will be able to:

• Appreciate how the history of civilization has developed and how that development has been used by God to further his plan.
• Understand the situations that the world finds itself in during the present times. 
• Use a Christian view of history and life to understand man.
• Recognize and attach importance to major people, events, ideas and developments.
• Understand current events in terms of historic perspectives.
• Recognize God as creator.
• Recognize God's justice and mercy throughout history.
• Better respond as active members of the Body of Christ working toward the completion of the Lord's Kingdom here on Earth.

Description: This course will explore the different nations of the world including study of the topographical features, languages, ethnic influences, religion,  brief history, and present governmental structure.

Western Civilization

Description: This course will survey the major stages of development in the history of western civilizations beginning with Middle Ages and proceeding through modern times.  Emphasis will be placed on the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Protestant Reformation, Enlightenment, French Revolution, Industrial Revolution, Age of Imperialism, The World Wars, and Modern events.

U.S. History

Description: This is a survey of American History covering the history of colonial America to modern times.  The emphasis is on major periods of development beginning with colonial times and proceeding through Revolutionary War and Independence, Expansion of the Country, Civil War, Reconstruction, Westward Movement , America during the time of Imperial expansion, The World Wars, Korea, Vietnam, and modern events.

Description: This course is a study of the origins of the United States government and its present status and functions.  It develops in students the ability to recall factual information, interprets data, and develop and defend theses about causes, effects, and relationships of constitutional issues.

Economics

Description: Students will learn the basic characteristics of the U.S. economic system. They will be able to demonstrate how fundamental economic concepts to free market capitalism operate in the U.S. and in the global economy. Students will develop an understanding of the economic principles that influence business decisions and will benefit from their contact with members of the business community. Finally, students will learn the basics of personal finance, develop long-term financial goals and foster the skills necessary to reach them.
